Rudy's I-35 Cup

The Rudy’s I-35 Cup is an event with two components.  The first part is the fundraising piece in which Austin 3 person teams play a match play scramble event against 3 person teams from San Antonio.  The winning city gets the Community Cup.  The funds raised go to Africa New Life (Austin) and the First Tee of San Antonio.  In the first four years approximately $200,000 has been raised for Charity.  

The second part of this event is the competitive piece.  Golfers from both cities compete all year long in local events within their respective cities and accumulate points towards making the 14 man team from their city.  The 14 man teams from Austin and San Antonio compete in a 2 day Ryder Cup style format event.  

Qualifying requirements for making the Austin team:

1.  The player must be at least 25 years old to be on the team.
2.  The player must live in Travis County or one of the surrounding counties.
3.  You must play in at least 2 local events from the Austin schedule to be eligible for the team (including Captain’s Picks).

Austin Team Structure:

  • The top 9 Mid-Ams from the Mid-Am points list
  • The top 3 Seniors from the Senior points list
  • Two Captain’s picks
  • Randy Reynolds will be the 2013 Captain.

  • Bluebonnet Cup
  • Omar Uresti Invitational - The First Tee Austin

2011 Rudy’s I-35 Cup San Antonio and Austin teams:



 

San Antonio retained the Community Cup with a 40 1/2 to 28 1/2 win in the Rivalry before the Match.
